🎉 One Year on Queen Street: A Sweet Milestone for kasdan co. ☕

One year ago today, we opened the doors to our very first brick-and-mortar café at 792 Queen St. E — and what a year it’s been.

Before this shop existed, kasdan co. started humbly — just one day a week at the Soo Mrkt, selling donuts and coffee to a growing crowd of locals who believed in what we were building. For the first few weeks we couldn’t even offer donuts. We were waiting on equipment. We began our journey as a donut shop that could not sell donuts. It was a bit of a bumpy start that led to something beautiful. And that small booth taught us a lot about community, hard work, and the magic that happens when people come together over something simple — a great cup of coffee and a fresh donut.

It was scary, but we did it anyway. 

When we finally turned the key on our Queen Street location, we didn’t know exactly what to expect. What we did know was that we’d bring the same energy, creativity, and heart that fueled us from the start. And in the past twelve months, that spirit has taken us further than we could have imagined.

A lot has happened in the last twelve months. We set a Guinness World Record surrounded by our family and friends, we recently won the Bridges to Better Business Pitch Competition, we were one of the lucky businesses to be selected for the Starter Company Plus Grant (which includes mentorship to help us grow in the right way), we’ve received support from our city-including Sault Ste Marie city staff, APH, Millworks, the EDC, and the Community Development Corporation. But our most important support has come from you - our customers. Every single person who has visited us, liked or shared one of our videos, shared a word of support, etc. — we are so grateful for you and how you’ve fuelled our dreams!

☕ Staying Grounded and Growing Forward

We’re open Monday–Friday, 8am–3pm, and still maintaining our presence at the Soo Mrkt every Saturday from 9am–2pm. 

Running a small business isn’t easy — nothing worth doing really is. There are long days, early mornings, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work that most people never see. But every bit of effort is worth it when you see a full shop, a smiling customer, or a first-timer become a regular.

This past year has proven that with persistence, creativity, and community support, dreams really can rise - just like donuts in the fryer (forgive us for that one).

🌟 Onwards and Upwards

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not slowing down. The next year brings new projects, team expansion, and plans to extend our hours so even more people can enjoy what we do best.
